The Mahwah Municipal Alliance, “MMA” is a group of community volunteers that are fortunate to partner with the Mahwah Police Department to provide important information and resources to our residents and youth. We address the critical social and mental health issues that we all face in today’s rapidly changing world. The great majority of these programs are entirely free to the community. Much of what we offer is tailored for the youth of Mahwah. We strive to inspire character and personal courage, encourage good decision-making, and promote social and physical development as well as general safety.
For over 15 years, the MMA continues to offer a wide variety of information, guides, contacts, resources, and programs in a variety of areas.
Some of the impactful MMA programs include:
Youth Police Academies
We are proud to have once again partnered with the Mahwah PD to hold our popular Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) and our Junior Police Academy (JPA) programs. These summer camp programs for middle school and high school students encourage teamwork, leadership and character and also help to develop a positive and lasting relationship with law enforcement.
Community Substance Abuse Liaison
We make an important resource available to all residents in Mahwah. Dana Romano is our substance abuse community liaison and is available by phone 24/7. She is an advocate for families and individuals that are struggling and will help guide them appropriately.
Narcan Training
We have partnered with Valley Hospital to offer vital Narcan training to our community, with free Narcan kits to those that attend. Due to the great success of these training events and much-continued interest, these classes are offered on a regular basis.
